ANGLESEA’S Burson Rock2Ramp Ocean Swim made a triumphant return to its first full event in two years with 863 people taking to the water last week (December 28).

Free from pandemic restrictions, the annual Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) fundraiser, which features four event categories, brought in more than $30,000 from entrance fees and sponsorship.

Claire Milligan celebrated her first-place win in the open women’s swim over a 2.5km course for the second year in a row on a time of 34:45, and Clancey Luscombe narrowly took line honours in the men’s event on a cracking time of 29:50, with one second between the next two place-getters Matt Gilling and Harry Manolopoulos.

Ex-Olympian Rowie Webster put in a star performance placing third in the women’s 2.5km and then winning 30-39 year-old 1.2km event.

Clancey Luscombe backed up his 2.5km win with a tied second alongside Matt Gilling in the 1.2km men’s course, the pair beaten by Thomas Hay who completed the swim in 14:30.

There were similarly close finishes in the women’s 18-29 event over 1.2km as Mia Holah took line honours at a time of 16:30, followed soon after by Madison Cooper and Naantali Marshall who tied for second place.

Harvey Luscombe matched his brother’s fast pace by coming first in the men’s open 600m swim in time of 8:43, almost a minute ahead of second placed Harry Talbot who was followed a minute later by Joshua Thornton.

Anglesea Surf Club member Sam Hume marked a grueling two days of athleticism by winning the Go Ride a Wave Surf ‘n’ Turf event where competitors complete the Roo Run the day before and then the Rock 2 Ramp swim.
Lauren Ward was first place in the women’s category of the event.

The youngsters had their moment to shine in the untimed Kid’s Dash events, hundreds of beach side onlookers cheered the juniors on as they took part in the 200m and 300m courses.
“The fact that we had over 30 people competing in the 70-plus events was fantastic as well, they did the 1.2km swim,” Anglesea SLSC Marketing Director Emily Watsford said.

“It was a great day, really fantastic, it ran really smoothly,” she said.Kid’s Dash competitors hit the water.
