Big wave rider sells house during big swell
GOING once, going twice, for the third and final time, are there any further bids? SOLD!
Saturday saw the very successful hockingstuart auction of big wave surfer Ross Clarke-Jones’ property at 2 Sky Court, Jan Juc.
The property on offer was a single-level four-bedroom, two-bathroom home with two living areas.
The beauty and attraction of this property was the level block of 630sqm, which backed directly onto the Bob Pettit Reserve, an attraction to many looking to buy into the Jan Juc market.
Buyers and neighbours filled the court for the 12pm auction.
With six- to eight-foot waves hitting nearby reef and beach breaks, the bidding opened at $1 million and for the next few minutes three buyers bid with confidence, the result winding up at $1.2 million, smashing the record for the area.
The last house to sell on the reserve offering the same accommodation sold in April 2018 for $930,000.
RP Data records show an increase in Jan Juc house prices of 34 per cent over the last two years, well above the average increase for the Surf Coast, which increased by 19 per cent over the same period.
Hockingstuart director and auctioneer Leigh Hall-Sullivan said his company continued to see very solid growth in Jan Juc due to the lack of properties that come up for sale.
“There are a long list of buyers looking to secure a property in Jan Juc and this continues to drive the prices up.
“It was extremely rewarding to bring our buyers into the home after the auction and see how happy and relieved they were to secure the property. That is absolutely one of the best parts of this job,” Mr Hall-Sullivan said.
Ross Clarke-Jones said that it was a pleasure to pass on his house to the purchasers after 18 years of ownership and using the property as his base.
“They really seemed so happy. Having Leigh and Josie manage my campaign was great and they made the process from start to finish completely hassle free. They are a pleasure to deal with.”
