Big weekend coming up for local cricket sides

LOCAL cricket sides are taking their bats and balls and getting ready to play for premierships this weekend.

In the Geelong Cricket Association Division 2 Turf Firsts, Torquay will play Belmont at St Peters No. 1, Walker Oval in Herne Hill (see page 106), after defeating Bell Post Hill by 25 runs at the weekend.

Tom Jefferson and Luke Adams were the best of the Torquay batsmen, making 69 and 33 respectively.

Jefferson followed his effort with the bat by taking 3/9 with the ball. Chasing 158 runs for victory, Bell Post Hill was bowled out for 132.

Meanwhile, in the Bellarine Peninsula Cricket Association, Anglesea will play Ocean Grove at Ron Evans Oval in Portarlington for the A Grade premiership.

Anglesea defeated Drysdale for its place in the final, while Ocean Grove defeated crosstown rivals Collendina.
