SURF Coast residents are being asked to plan for temporary changes to kerbside bin collections over the Christmas period, with adjusted pick-up days and extra services in place across the shire.

Bins normally collected on Thursday, December 25 will be collected on Friday, December 26, and bins normally collected on Friday will be collected on December 27.

Regular collections will resume on Monday, December 29.

The Surf Coast Shire will also run additional waste and recycling collections Residents can check their additional pick-up dates on the Surf Coast Rubbish and Recycling app or download their kerbside calendar on the shire website.

To keep collections running smoothly, households are advised to leave 50cm between each bin and at least 1m from fences and walls.

Avoid overfilling, and remember: if you can’t move your bin, trucks won’t be able to lift it.

Cr Paul Barker said said the changes were essential to help households cope with the surge in waste over the holiday period.

“We know that many people accumulate extra rubbish across the Christmas–New Year period, so these extra collections will help households manage this,” he said.

Extreme weather may affect kerbside collections and the opening hours of the Anglesea and Lorne transfer stations, which will operate with extended hours through January.

The Anglesea Transfer Station will be open to commercial waste contractors on Saturdays between December 20 and January 24, and will remain open to the public seven days a week, except Christmas Day.

The Lorne Transfer Station will close at 2pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between December 26 and January 26.
