Bipartisan funds pledged to Apollo Bay sports facilities

May 1, 2019 BY

THE Apollo Bay Football Netball Club will score an upgrade to its facilities no matter who wins the federal election, with both the Labor and Liberal parties pledging $487,000 within hours of each other at the weekend.

The funding will go towards upgrading the club kitchen, the construction and installation of a new lighting system and electronic scoreboard on the main oval, ground seating, perimeter fencing and the resurfacing of the existing netball courts.

Both contenders announced their election commitments at the clubrooms on Saturday night. It is unclear who made their pledge first.

Labor candidate for Corangamite Libby Coker said the funding would help the Apollo Bay Football Netball Club upgrade its existing facilities to better cater for the growing demand being placed on the by the broader community.

“The current facilities of the Apollo Bay Football and Netball Club are simply not adequate considering the growing needs of the community.

“Labor’s $487,000 investment will allow the club to continue to play a central role in the life of the community here in Apollo Bay for years to come.’

“This election will be a choice between a Shorten Labor Government with a plan for the services our community needs, or more of the Liberals’ cuts and chaos.”

Corangamite Liberal federal member Sarah Henderson said her government’s funding would be delivered in this year’s budget and was an incredible boost for Apollo Bay, and she congratulated the club and its members.

“Investing in sports and community facilities is so important for regional communities. This investment will serve the Apollo Bay community for many years to come.

“Every community matters. I am proud to be delivering for Apollo Bay and the surrounding communities.

“By paying down debt and growing the economy, we can afford to deliver funding for these priorities in communities across Corangamite.”
