Book Fair to return for eighth chapter
TORQUAY Rotary Book Fair will return for its eighth year this January, giving locals the opportunity to buy a range of $1 books.
Community members donate books to be sold at the event, with money raised going towards community groups and organisations.
Groups to benefit in recent years include Food Aid Torquay, Parkinson’s Victoria, Torquay Community House, Story Dogs, Geelong Mums and Bellbrae Primary School.
More than 20 separate book genres will feature during the event including fiction, non-fiction, romance, children’s picture books, biographies and much more.
Rotary Club of Torquay volunteer Neil Henderson said excitement was high for the annual book extravaganza.
“We can’t wait to see thousands of people come through the doors of the school to get their hands on a bargain,” he said.
“Our volunteers are busily trying to organise and sort all the books, and this year, we plan on sorting all our non-fiction books into alphabetical order, which will definitely make it easier for our visitors.
“We also plan to have a special children’s reading area. It will give children the opportunity to go off and read while their parents are off looking for their own special find.
“There is sure to be something for everyone at the Book Fair.”
Single books will be available for $1, or attendees can fill a shopping bag for $10.
The event is at the Surf Coast Secondary College, from January 19 to 21. Opening hours are 9am to 4pm daily.
