Roadworks begin in Lorne
REPAIR works on the Great Ocean Road at Lorne began on Monday. The works are taking place from Bay Street to Armytage Street and from Shipwreck Trail to Hird Street. Works are scheduled from 7am to 5.30pm, weather permitting, with the project to be completed by September 28. No works will be staged over the September school holidays. All areas will be under traffic management (with a 40kmh speed limit) and minor delays are expected. Geelong sets date for mayoral election
THE City of Greater Geelong council has called a special meeting for October 15 to conduct a mayoral election. Under the City of Greater Geelong Act 1993, a mayoral election must be held every two years. The mayor and deputy mayor elected during the special meeting will serve through to the next council elections on October 24, 2020. Both positions will be elected in the open chamber by a vote of councillors. All councillors are eligible to be nominated for both roles. The meeting will be at City Hall from 7pm and the community is welcome to attend. It will also be livestreamed at geelongaustralia.com.au/meetings.
Seniors Festival begins in October
THE largest community celebration for seniors in regional Victoria will be held in Geelong during October. The Geelong Seniors Festival allows people to explore new interests, strengthen social networks and improve their knowledge and skills. Part of the Victorian Seniors Festival, Geelong’s festival program is packed with a variety of events daily from October 1-31.
