Brodie sets sights on motocross nationals
MANY 13-year-olds aspire to one day become professional athletes, and Brodie Gawith is no exception. However, unlike many of his contemporaries, Brodie’s passion lies in the sport of motocross.
July 22 saw the conclusion of the Victorian Junior Motocross Championship, a competition in which Brodie secured third overall in the 85cc division.
Brodie was pleased with his podium finish, however, a mechanical issue which compromised his bike’s rear brakes in the final race cost Brodie a higher placing.
Not content with his recent success at state level, Brodie now has his sights set on the Australian Titles. He will be travelling down to Tasmania to compete for the national title in the first week of October.
The track conditions should suit the Mt Duneed local, with Brodie expecting to put on a good performance.
In only his third year of competitive riding, Brodie has seen significant improvement. Partly due to the coaching of Joe Stevens, who along with the rest of the MAD MX coaching team have continued Brodie’s development as a rider.
However, Brodie’s love for motocross and motorbikes in general is not restricted to race day. Brodie trains every evening after school at Ride Park or on the track that has been constructed in his own backyard. On the weekends when Brodie is not racing, he also trains at Park 4 MX.
When he isn’t on the bike, Brodie can be found in the gym, studiously following his specific workout regime.
Brodie’s talent and hard work has not gone unnoticed. He is fortunate enough to now have a number of sponsors: including Mototech KTM Geelong, JPC Performance, Thor Apparel, Spy Optic & Michelin Tyres.
While Brodie’s dedication to the sport is clear to see, he also enjoys the mateship and comradery he has with the other riders.
“When we’re racing, we obviously want to beat everyone, but once the race is finished we’re all mates again.”
In keeping with the times, Brodie also has set up Facebook (MotoBrodie) and Instagram (@brodie_gawith125) pages, which allow his family and friends to stay up to date with Brodie’s riding.
