THE annual Geelong calendar is being distributed to more than 100,000 homes this month.

This year’s Geelong calendar competition attracted more than 1,100 entries, with photographer Luke David winning the coveted cover image for his shot from Flinders Peak in the You Yangs.

Mr David – who was also featured in the 2017 Geelong calendar – said he had been visiting Geelong since he was a child to stay with his grandparents.

“As an adult I still enjoy visiting family in Geelong and the Bellarine and spending time with my camera rediscovering the beauty of the area,” he said.
“I know that the residents of the city will get a sense of this beauty when they receive their calendar full of so many amazing images.”

Geelong Gallery director Jason Smith selected Mr David’s photo as the cover image and praised the entries from contributing photographers as “simply outstanding”.

He also congratulated the winning artists for their technical and conceptual talent behind the lens.

“It was easy to see that each photographer’s passion for and vision of their subject profoundly influenced their final formal compositions and feeling for light and colour.

“As always, it is terribly uneasy to select just one winner, but Luke David’s image of the You Yangs, a landscape I love, captivated me.”

The 2020 calendar features photographs of modern architecture, local historic sites, the natural environment, wildlife, scenic horizons and celebratory events.

Extra copies of the calendar can be collected at City of Greater Geelong customer service centres. For more information, head to geelongaustralia.com.au/calendar.
