Call to cut speed limit near Kithbrooke Park

June 27, 2018 BY

THE Surf Coast Shire is considering a request to drop the speed limit on a section of Ghazeepore Road in Torquay from 80 kmh to 50 kmh.

The 97-signature petition states the speed should be reduced on the road between Coomes and Grossmans roads, as the Kithbrooke Park Country Club retirement village (including its main entrance) occupies most of the street frontage.

“Ghazeepore Road… is being used with increasing frequency by high mass load trucks and trailers weighing in excess of 50 tonnes.

“These present a significant danger to resident vehicles driven by retirees whose reaction time may not be as fast as those of a younger community.”

The petition was lodged at the May 27 council meeting, and councillors will consider a report on it from officers at their July 24 meeting.
