WATER treatment at the popular Wye River Beachfront Campground will now look very different following the opening of a new treatment plant funded through state government funding.

A new wastewater treatment plant designed and constructed by Aubin Environmental was wastewater treatment plant is on the way, following demolition of the old treatment plant this week.

“Better wastewater treatment means we are more prepared to manage the challenges of the busy summer holiday season in Wye River,” Great Ocean Road Coast & Parks Authority acting director infrastructure and planning Shane Blackett said.

“This crucial investment in modernising wastewater treatment services in Wye River will ensure better services for caravan park users.

“This project is essential for Wye River and demonstrates our commitment to improving infrastructure and services along the Great Ocean Road.”

GORCAPA states the upgraded plant will be able to treat 35,000 litres of waste each day, as well as minimising noise and managing waste sustainably.

GORCAPA reviewed six applications during the tender process, with AUBIN Environmental Pty Ltd receiving the highest rating for value for key requirements.

The Victorian Government also contributed $900,000 towards the wastewater treatment plant through its Visitor Experience Uplift Grant.

The former wastewater treatment system was more than a decade old and struggled to service more than 250 campground users.

The project is expected to be completed in late 2024 barring any planning obstructions.
