RESIDENTS and guests of the Kennett River Caravan Park have helped raise more than $3500 for the Kennett River Surf Life Saving Club by collecting cans for cash.

More than 35,000 bottles and cans have been gathered so far this year to help clean up the park and surrounding areas.

Park manager Ty Donaldson and Kennett River SLSC member Tim Rothman recently deposited all the cans and bottles at the Brotherhood of St Lawrence depot in Geelong.

Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority accommodation services manager Brendan Parker congratulated both parties on the initiative.

“Each can we collect is helping to ensure the surf lifesaving club has the resources it needs to protect our community this summer,” he said.

“We’re proud of our caravan parks and we want to work together to support communities along the Great Ocean Road.”

The Victorian Container Deposit Scheme rewards Victorians with a 10-cent refund for every eligible can, carton and bottle they return.
