LOCALLY crowdfunded research film project “Hubcaps to Creative Hubs” premiered at Geelong Library and Heritage Centre last Thursday.

“Hubcaps to Creative Hubs” is a three-part documentary series that includes interviews and spectacular footage of three former industrial sites currently undergoing a creative transformation: Fyansford Paper Mills, R.S.&S. Woollen and Worsted Mills in Newtown and Federal Woollen Mills in North Geelong.

The project was part of Deakin University’s “Research My World” collaboration with crowdfunding platform Pozible, and was put together in partnership with the University of Melbourne and Creative Geelong Inc.

Deakin University’s Dr David Halliwell said the Geelong community raised more than $20,000 to support making these films.

“The Geelong community owns these films. The process to research and develop these films has been a great example of collaboration and what can be done when community is engaged and excited about research and telling stories of their region,” Dr Halliwell said.
