Captain Moonlite to pop up at Samesyn
A CULINARY favourite of the past will be making a comeback for one night only at Samesyn in Torquay to raise funds for a worthy cause.
Award-winning chef Matt Germanchis will be presenting dishes from Anglesea restaurant Captain Moonlite on September 24.
He will be cooking a four-course Greek/Mediterranean menu incorporating rescued ingredients from Feed Me Surf Coast.
All the profits will go straight back into providing food security to those doing it tough on the Surf Coast.
Mr Germanchis said diners could expect a night of nostalgia, laughter and great food and wine.
“I was thrilled Graham [Jeffries] approached me for this one. It’s worked out really organically.
“We will bring back some of the old favourites like octopus and plenty of seafood, and reuniting with the feel of how it all was down there in Anglesea.
“I can’t wait to get back behind the stoves again. It gives me free rein and I get to cook from what I know and what I love.”
Captain Moonlite was based in the Anglesea SLSC clubhouse and was lauded for its delicious and fresh cuisine and beautiful waterfront views.
Mr Germanchis and the team were finalists in Regional Restaurant of the Year during their time in Anglesea and also won several chef’s hats.
They also operated a fish and chip store next to IGA in central Anglesea.
The Captain Moonlite pop-up event sold out in an hour.
“It just went gangbusters, which is epic,” Mr Germanchis said.
“The charity arm of it is a big selling point for me. It’s unique and a great way of giving back.
“If I can fill the restaurant for the night and help the cause, it’s a win for everyone.”
Samesyn owner Graham Jeffries said he was thrilled to have Captain Moonlite in for a night.
“It’s super-exciting! Captain Moonlite is one of those restaurants that everyone used to love, and we can’t wait to bring it back to life.
“Matt and I have crossed paths many times, so it’ll be great to team up here.”
