CAROL Fox has been awarded a life membership from the Lorne Surf Life Saving Club.

Ms Fox said she was honoured to have received the recognition from the club.

“We don’t save lives or join clubs to get acknowledgement like this, but it was just really lovely to know that I’ve been appreciated, and to reaffirm why I’m down there helping out the young people.

“You hear the impact you have on people and it makes it all worthwhile.”

Ms Fox attained her bronze medallion at Lorne SLSC in 1981.

She was the first female competitor at the club and further made history by being the first female to win an individual medal in an open Victorian Championship event, when she came third in the State Belt Race Final.

This is just one of several medals Ms Fox obtained at state level, with others including the 1983 Malibu Silver, 1984 Ski Gold, Malibu Bronze, 1989 Ski Silver and 1990 Ski Silver.

Ms Fox became the Club’s Junior Captain in 1982 and 1983. She would go on to become patrol captain from 1990-93.

Outside the club, Ms Fox has found similar success, as she is currently the president of Women Sport Australia.

She continues to serve the club; she is now into her fourth year working as club secretary.
