HUNDREDS of people turned out to sing and be merry at the Carols by the Barwon.

Last weekend’s event at Lions Park in Winchelsea featured community choirs, talented local performances and a joyful mix of traditional and modern caroling.

Santa makes his grand entrance.

Families were invited to bring a picnic rug, sing along and enjoy the festivities.

Event organiser, Elaine Atkinson, of Growing Winchelsea, said the event was a huge success.

“It certainly went very well; we had hundreds of people there who really got into the Christmas spirit,” she said.

“We were a bit worried at 3pm with the rain and wind, thinking no one was going to come, but the weather cleared and it was fantastic.

“Our carollers were great – we had seven or eight – and the appearance of Santa was very popular with the children who just had the best fun at the event.”

The Christmas festivities in Winchelsea will continue through December.

Twinkle Trees, crafted by the Men’s Shed, are on display, the Lions Club is hosting a Christmas lights competition, and the local shops will take part in a quirky elf trail.
