Surf Coast Shire mayor Cr Libby Stapleton, Paul Weight, Cr Mike Bodsworth, Western Victoria MP Gayle Tierney, Denise Munro, council CEO Robyn Seymour and Anglesea Football and Netball Club vice-president Marianne Caulfield.

ANGLESEA netballers can look forward to a new, long-awaited pavilion with changerooms and other facilities thanks to a $500,000 state government grant.

In announcing the significant funding for Surf Coast Shire council towards the pavilion project, Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney acknowledged the council and Anglesea Football Netball Club for their commitment and financial contributions to the project.

The new pavilion will replace the ageing clubrooms which no longer meet the needs of the growing numbers keen to play netball at the reserve.

Female-friendly player changerooms, umpire changerooms, accessible toilet, competition and administration office, first aid and trainers’ room, accessible amenities and storage will be included in the pavilion design.

The new building will provide the perfect base for the Kangaroos to build on their membership, training, competitions and development programs, while community groups and the nearby schools will also be able to access the facility for local events.

“I wish to congratulate the Roos and the Surf Coast Shire council on the enormous amount of work they have done on this project so far,” Ms Tierney said.

“Local football and netball clubs, such as the Roos, are often the glue that keeps communities together – in good times and tough times, so it’s important to support the great job they do.

“This boost will go a long way to support the growing number of people keen to get involved in local sport and recreation.”

Ms Tierney said the funding was a great example of how the state government was “not only delivering in Anglesea, but making sport and recreation more accessible, welcoming and inclusive for more Victorians”.

The funding for the Anglesea netball pavilion will be provided from the state government’s 2021 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund, which allocated a total of $22 million to 73 projects statewide.

Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence has announced that the next round of the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund will open later this year, with up to $27 million available, including $10 million for female friendly facilities.
