FUNDING for students to attend camps and excursions is available from this term, the state government has announced.

The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund is available to more than 190,000 students a year.

Eligible students will receive $400 per year, up from $154 for eligible primary students and $256 for eligible secondary students.

The money can be used for activities such as camps, sporting events, excursions and graduations.

Education Minister Ben Carroll said the funding was aimed at easing financial pressure on families while keeping school activities accessible.

“We’re funding practical cost-of-living help while making sure no child misses out on things that make school fun,” he said.

Premier Jacinta Allan said the program aimed to support early learning and literacy.

“Free Prep bags are just one small thing we can do to help families and encourage a lifelong love of reading,” she said.Mr Carroll added: “These free Prep books and activities deliver practical cost-of-living relief that helps families from day one of school.”
