The Geelong Cats have unveiled Becky Webster and Nina Morrison as co-captains for the 2026 NAB AFLW season, entrusting two of the club’s foundation players to lead the next chapter of the program.

Both Webster and Morrison have been part of Geelong’s AFLW journey since its inaugural season in 2019 and now step into the game’s top leadership role as the Cats prepare for a fresh era under new coach Mick Stinear.

Morrison’s appointment follows a remarkable run of form, including claiming Geelong’s best and fairest in 2024 and finishing runner-up in 2025. Last season she averaged 20.3 disposals and 2.7 clearances per game after earning All-Australian honours in 2024.

Webster brings extensive leadership experience, having served in the club’s leadership group between 2022 and 2024. The versatile defender and midfielder is also Geelong’s most capped AFLW player with 73 games.

Geelong Cats AFLW General Manager Dominique Condo said the appointments reflected the respect both players command within the group.

“We’re extremely excited to see Nina and Becky lead a group that is hungry for the season ahead.”

“Nina and Becky have consistently demonstrated the behaviours that align to our Club pursuit and their elevation reflects the high regard their teammates hold them in.”

Condo said the pair would play a key role as the team enters a new phase.

“As we head into 2026 with a refreshed side and new head coach in Mick Stinear, their leadership will be central to shaping our direction on and off the field.”

“We’ve intentionally moved to a smaller formal leadership group this season, recognising the strong shared leadership that exists across the broader playing group.”

“Nina and Becky’s complementary strengths and shared drive will help guide this next phase of the team’s growth.”

Webster said being named co-captain alongside Morrison was a proud moment.

“Nina and I have watched this group develop over the years and it’s a special feeling to be announced to help lead as co-captains.”

“With Mick joining us and the new-look coaching group, we’re hungry to go far this season and the commitment from the players shows it’s possible.”

Morrison said there was strong belief building within the squad.

“It’s such an honour to lead this group and to represent this Club.”

“There is a real freshness and energy about the group right now, and I’m excited to keep building that sense of belief for the year ahead alongside Becky.”

The Cats will launch their 2026 AFLW campaign against reigning premiers North Melbourne in a blockbuster double-header at Marvel Stadium on August 15.

Supporters can now purchase AFLW memberships for the 2026 season, with every membership purchased entering the draw to win a 2026 Ford Everest.
