THE Surf Coast Shire Youth Awards is set to return for an in-person ceremony this weekend to celebrate the contributions made by young residents.

Up to 47 nominees aged between 12 and 25 will be in attendance at the Wurdi Baierr Stadium on June 26 with mayor Libby Stapleton to announce the winners across four categories including Arts, Community, Environment and Sport.

Official proceedings will take place between 3.45pm to 5pm on Saturday, followed by a series of games to be hosted by the Youth Development Team including ‘bubble soccer’ on the stadium’s new basketball courts.

The night is set to conclude at 8pm with a FReeZa gig to end the night in celebration of the nominees and their achievements across the shire’s rural townships and regional community hubs.

The event will mark the seventh year of the Surf Coast Shire Youth Awards which will recognise a diverse range of contributions and achievements made throughout 2020.

In a statement made by the Surf Coast Youth on Facebook they said, “2020 was a tough year for many but no doubt there were still many young people doing amazing things”.
