Chasing waterfalls and river crossings
RUNNERS will descend on the region this month as they take on the coming Wonderfalls Trail Run.
Participants will set off from Lorne’s Cumberland River Holiday Park as they complete distances ranging from 6km up to 52km.
Race director Brett Saxon said the Wonderfalls trail run continually received great feedback from participants, describing the event and location as the “best ever.”
“The amazing coastal views, elevated mountain trails, glorious waterfalls and incredible single trails create lifetime memories and adventures.
“Wonderfalls trail run is very much about the adventure and memories created, along with the friendships and camaraderie of participants who are always encouraging and supportive on the course.
Now in its 10th year on the Surf Coast, the August 17 event takes participants along mountain streams, ocean views and single trails, while some will visit waterfalls up to 14 times depending on their chosen distance.
All runners will also make their way through three river crossing within the first 2km. Depending on rainfall leading up to the event, water height will vary from ankle to knee deep.
Mr Saxon said the trail run had a unique base to host the event from, offering a course that is designed specifically around visiting the waterfalls.
“Wonderfalls is possibly the most unique trail run in Victoria and possibly Australia.
“The entire course uses single trails and management trails, keeping runners entirely in nature to experience the beauty of the surf coast and Lorne region.”
An informal dinner will be held at the Lorne Pub on Friday and Saturday evening for runners to meet their fellow participants or catch up after the race.
Participants are encouraged to stay at the Cumberland River Holiday Park before the event, while those staying in Lorne or surrounds are required to catch the shuttle bus service to the starting line.
Runners will take off from the Cumberland River Holiday Park on August 17 between 8am and 12 noon and will finish by sunset.
Participants are encouraged to be ready for any late changes depending on weather.
