TORQUAY Lions Club has begun its annual Christmas Cake fundraising drive, offering hundreds of popular Lions cakes and puddings to residents in the Surf Coast community.

Torquay Lion Brian Keane said the Lions’ cakes and puddings were a treasured part of the organisation’s yearly drives, offering affordable and high quality treats to residents across Torquay.

“We do this Australia-wide as Lions and the proceeds that come out of it is two-fold,” Mr Keane said.

“Each purchase of a Lions cake goes towards research into children’s cancer, mobility aids for kids with a disability and blindness prevention.

“Additional proceeds from the cakes also goes into the Torquay Lions’ coffers, which is then redirected into the community programs we support in Torquay.

“We make every cent count.”

The Torquay Lions have placed Christmas cakes and puddings at the Torquay Newsagent, Bendigo Bank, Offshore Physio, and the Torquay Salvos.

There will also be cakes available at the Cowrie Market on December 15 and at each Farmer’s market.

In total, the local Lions club has received more than 500 cakes to give to the community.

1.5kg cakes cost $20, 1kg cakes cost $16, 900g puddings are going at $16, 400g puddings will set you back $10 and 80g cake slices are just $2.

“They’re quality cakes, we can promise people that they are buying quality stuff, it also allows us to get into the community and meet people face-to-face and interact with our local traders,” Mr Keane said.

“We thank the public for supporting us with this each year and we look forward to spreading the Christmas spirit again this year.”
