Christmas festivities begin in Geelong
MORE than 20,000 people visited the Geelong Waterfront over the weekend for the launch of the Christmas in Geelong program.
A picture-perfect evening of music and lights was enjoyed in the Steampacket Quay precinct, with Carols by the Bay and the lighting of the Floating Tree bringing it to life on Saturday.
Carols host Denis Walter and performers including the Oz Boyz, Angie Hilton, Team Dream and Santa put on a dazzling show.

The Floating Christmas Tree was officially illuminated after dark by Flick the Switch competition winner Charlotte Rockafeller, 6, of Manifold Heights.
“It’s always a highlight of the calendar for me, the performers and our wonderful community,” Walter said.
“Thank you to everyone who came out, sang along and embraced the festive spirit. I wish a safe and happy Christmas to all.”
City of Greater Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj declared Geelong the Christmas capital of Australia after the huge success of Saturday night.
“It was great to see so many people supporting hospitality venues on the waterfront despite the rain, and the popularity shows how much people love the combination of carols and the lighting of our famous tree.
“Our Christmas in Geelong program has something for everyone.”

The Christmas in Geelong program continues throughout November, December and January, with a range of innovations this year, including street performers, City Hall projections, art installations, new decorations and community events.
The interactive Floating Christmas Tree will play six-minute shows every 15 minutes from 8.30pm-midnight each night until January 7.
