AN ANGLESEA resident has fired up his bike and is ready to spread Christmas cheer to children on the Surf Coast.

Retired postman Cameron McFarlane is revving up for his 14th annual trip to Anglesea Kindergarten and Anglesea Primary School to collect letters to deliver to Santa.

The “Santa Postie” will hand deliver the letters to Santa in the North Pole, before children receive a response from the man in the big red suit in the weeks leading up to Christmas Day.

Mr McFarlane said Santa’s workshop has been very busy in anticipation for the big day.

Hundreds of letters will be dropped off to Santa from Anglesea over the next few weeks.

“This year, it’s been very cold at the North Pole. Last night when I was there it was -16C.

“When I was up there dropping off the mail and having a hot chocolate with Santa, he said all the kids have been very good this year.

“The children have been looking after each other and smiling, which is always a wonderful way to spend this time of year.

“Santa also said there’s a lot more decorations out this year, which is just terrific. The reindeers are clearing the radars and making sure they’ve got a good spot to land.”

It’s full throttle ahead for the North Pole XPress as it makes its way to Santa’s workshop.

Mr McFarlane said doing his job for Santa and the elves was “the best fun you could ever have”.

“I was the postie in Torquay for about 10 years, and did the Christmas letters for eight of those, and then I went to Anglesea four years ago.

“It’s the one time of the year where you should indulge in a bit of magic and wonder.

“When I’m riding through town people just have the biggest smiles and toot and wave, it just puts a smile on their face. I just love it.”

If you want to have your special letter given to Santa, drop it off at the Anglesea Post Office in the lead up to Christmas.
