City to power Autumn music series

Free entertainment will captivate audiences across Greater Geelong this autumn as part of the Music in the City series.

On until the end of May, free entertainment gigs will be predominantly hosted in the Little Malop Central precinct and will cover a diverse range of genres including jazz, indie, gyspy, folk, reggae and more.

Performers already locked in to play during the noon-2pm slots each weekday include pop classics duo The Gems, songwriter and guitarist Eden Ariston and guitar duo String Theory.

City of Greater Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan said the Music in the City program would provide a fun atmosphere.

“By attracting more people to our city centre for shopping, dining and culture, we support local businesses, boost the region’s economy and contribute towards the vibrancy and safety of this precinct.

“Checking out some live music is a great way to relax in between shopping and visiting our hospitality and cultural venues.”

Brownbill Ward councillor Eddy Kontelj also expressed his excitement for the program, citing it as an important way that the city could attract more people to the area.

“We’re always looking at ways to promote social connection and support our local musicians who are incredibly talented and unique.

“There are plans to add to Music in the City to the May’d Festival that Creative Geelong are delivering in Little Malop Central and Centrepoint Arcade on May 26 and May 27.”
