Climate protester moved on by police

AN OCEAN Grove woman demanding a meeting with Sarah Henderson to discuss the Liberal Party’s position on climate change was removed from the MPs office by police on Friday.

Caroline Danaher said she had been trying to arrange a meeting with Ms Henderson about the issue since January 4, and while she acknowledged Ms Henderson had granted her an impromptu meeting in that time, she felt her concerns hadn’t been heard by the MP.

She said she wrote letters and sat in the foyer of Ms Henderson’s Waurn Ponds office hoping to get another chance to make her case for more action to be taken on climate change, before she was removed by police on Friday.

“I’m worried about the climate emergency,” Ms Danaher said.

“Everyone needs to know that more action needs to be taken on the issue. Each of us has to stand up and do something, and sure I might be a small cog (in the machine), but I’m trying to do something.

“This is not a small thing, this is big, big stuff.

Calling it ‘climate change’ doesn’t cut it anymore.

It’s a climate emergency. Sure, I might be dead in 12 years, but my grandsons need a life, the young people on the planet need a life.”

A spokeswoman for Ms Henderson said that Ms Henderson met with Ms Danaher for around 20 minutes on March 1.

“On May 10, police attended Ms Henderson’s office after a group of protestors refused to leave and were impeding access.”
