ORGANISERS of the fourth annual Pink Zinc Patrol at the weekend have hailed the event a great success.

Point Lonsdale and Ocean Grove surf lifesaving clubs came together on Saturday to celebrate, promote and enable female participation and leadership in surf lifesaving.

Organiser Bec Sampson, from Ocean Grove SLSC, said the highlight of the day was the engaging and inspirational presentation from guest speaker, the Lord Mayor of Melbourne Sally Capp, who shared advice to all the girls and women in the room.

“When we hit the beach to start patrol the sun was shining and the surf was pumping, a good four to five feet!” Bec said.

“But that didn’t deter any of the eager SRCs and Bronzies who took to the water to practice their tube rescues and surf skills.

“After a long day it was heartwarming to see all the smiles on so many faces, still stained with pink zinc and plastered with sand.

“Old friendships were strengthened and new ones were built.

“We can’t wait to do it bigger and better next year!”
