Coasters aim to rebound
SURF Coast FC women’s team will be eager to bounce back this weekend after losing for the first time this season.
The Coasters lost to Barwon SC White 2-1 at home last weekend in the Geelong Senior Women’s Division 1 competition.
Ella-Jane Riley scored their goal in what coach Steve Christou called an even contest.
It came after the Coasters won their opening three games, beating Drysdale 2-1, Bell Park 4-1 and Ocean Grove 2-0.
“We’ve recruited a few extra girls this year so we’re a pretty strong squad with good numbers,” Christou said.
“We’re trying to play a possession-based style.”
He highlighted the club was one of a few that also had a Division 2 team, which fell 2-1 to Golden Plains on the weekend.
The Division 1 side’s next game is against Deakin Uni Black tomorrow (Saturday, July 5) away at 1pm, a team they have had a healthy rivalry with across the years.

Christou said the club had experienced great growth in its long-standing women’s program.
“We’ve got close to 40 players in our group but the best thing about it is we’ve got girls that are 14 years of age up to women that are in their 40s playing,” he said.
“So that’s probably the biggest thing, that it’s a game for everyone.”
He said the club also took care to ensure there was a pathway for young players and highlighted that they had girls’ teams in the Community Premier League this year.
