CORANGAMITE Labor federal member Libby Coker has launched a petition calling for a post office to open in Armstrong Creek.

Armstrong Creek’s population is presently more than 15,000, and the City of Greater Geelong’s Northern and Western Geelong Growth Areas Project recognises the Armstrong Creek Growth Area as having the potential to accommodate up to 65,000 new residents.

There is a post office in Grovedale, which is about five kilometres from Warallily and two-and-a-half kilometres from Armstrong Creek Town Centre, but Ms Coker said this was insufficient.

“I’ve heard stories of long lines and frustration from many of my constituents.

“It’s ridiculous this enormous growth area is still lacking a post office.

“As it stands, the entire 3217 postcode is only serviced by one curbside post box. That is not good enough.”

Armstrong Creek resident Julie Crees said the pandemic had highlighted the need for a local post office.

“There is a lot of frustration – particularly in these COVID times when many are buying products online and need to line up at the small branch office in Peter Street in Grovedale or outside the Waurn Ponds post office.”

Ms Coker said she believed the space for a potential post office was also available.

“There are now two shopping centres based in the development area. So there really is no reason why Australia Post would be unable to snap up a prime location.”
