CORANGAMITE Labor federal member Libby Coker has made education spending a major feature of her campaign in recent days, announcing four school funding commitments should Labor win the May 21 federal election.

Ms Coker visited Surf Coast Secondary College last week with Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Penny Wong to announce an Albanese Labor Government would provide $39,210 for outdoor fitness equipment, and also pledged $40,000 to football oval fencing for the pupils at Mirripoa Primary School in Mount Duneed.

“Surf Coast Secondary College needs the outdoor equipment as part of its fitness training programs and I’m pleased to commit to contribute funding if a Labor Government is elected.

“I know that the College places a significant effort into educating students on developing their physical health through exercise training.

“This equipment will help to ensure students can train on quality equipment that gives them the best chance of enjoying and excelling at fitness programs.”

Labor says the funding is part of its plan to improve school facilities across the nation to help keep students and school staff safe and get education back on track after several COVID-19 disruptions.

“The Mirripoa Primary School, as a relatively new school, is still establishing its sporting fields and needs fencing around the school oval,” Ms Coker said.

“I know that Mirripoa Primary wants to ensure the oval is safe for all types of uses.

“That means having a proper fence, especially as the oval currently joins open paddocks.

“This fencing will help to ensure students can train and play safely, without losing balls into the surrounding grass areas.”

Ms Coker also committed $9,800 to help deliver classroom IT equipment at Drysdale Primary School, and $50,000 to an outdoor basketball court at Grovedale College.
