Colour wave: Fluro Friday to bring mental health awareness
A TORQUAY surf camp operator is bringing more colour to mental health by hosting a Fluro Friday event tomorrow morning (Friday, March 21).
The event at Torquay Front Beach is a partnership between Honu Honi and Australian not-for-profit One Wave, who are celebrating their 12th birthday.
Attendees are encouraged to dress in their brightest fluro gear and share stories and reflections on what helps them with their mental health.
Honu Honi owner Becky Goschnick said the event would be one not to miss.
“We’re beyond excited to celebrate OneWave’s 12th birthday with our local community.
“Mental health is just as important as physical health, and this event is a way to bring people together, support one another, and enjoy the ocean in a safe and welcoming space.”
Since 2013, OneWave has held fluro events across 50 countries to reduce mental health stigma and help “free the funk.”
OneWave founder Grant Trebilco said he was thrilled to be teaming up with Honu Honi on this event.
“It’s all about giving more people the chance to ride waves, talk about mental health, and feel part of a supportive community.
“Dress in your brightest fluro to help bring more colour to mental health and join us for a fluro surf or swim.”
Fluro Friday is a free community event, and everyone is welcome.
The event is free to attend, and as much fluro is recommended.
Festivities begin from 7am.
