Committee For Lorne: Lorne P-12 College VCAL Students Head From Sea To Sand

May 9, 2018 BY

Pictured above are the Lorne P-12 VCAL students and staff and standing (in red) Mr Robert Cameron, Business Development Manager Bendigo Bank, major sponsor of the project.

The VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) students at Lorne P-12 College and the Santa Teresa community in Alice Springs are culturally far removed from each other and have unique environments with varied cultural offerings.

The students of these unique communities have been given an opportunity to connect and experience the diversity of their schools and community.

Eight VCAL students from Lorne P-12 College will be travelling by plane to Alice Springs where they will be hosted by Santa Teresa students. Students will share in Aboriginal cultural experiences, share stories and meals, and work together to create a community project that will represent their relationship, such as a community garden.

Students leave on May 27 and will return on June 1. The Lorne students will host the students from Santa Teresa later in the year, giving them the opportunity to experience the ocean environment, most for the very first time.

This will be a great opportunity for our students to demonstrate their leadership skills, experience diversity in culture, create empathy and compassion and establish new friendships. All these skills and attributes are important for personal growth and employability.

Students are fundraising the total cost of this unique project and have had amazing support from major sponsor Bendigo Bank, as well as Colac and Torquay Rotary Clubs and members of the community via our crowdfunding site.

If you would like further information or would like to donate to the project, visit the project website at https://seatosandtrip.weebly.com where there is also a link to the fundraising campaign site.
