Committee for Lorne: Parkrun COMES TO LORNE

March 27, 2019 BY

Launching on Saturday 6th April at 8am, Lorne Beach parkrun will see runners and walkers, young and old, fast and not so fast all enjoying the beautiful Lorne beachfront.

Parkrun is a free 5km community event that is open for all to attend each Saturday morning. Parkrun was founded in 2011 in the UK and now boasts 350 locations around Australia.

Participants register online and their results are recorded each time they participate. parkrunners can attend parkruns at any location around the world, and Lorne will attract many visitors willing to experience our unique course.

Meeting at the Lorne Surf Life Saving Club, the trail heads along the foreshore on the very popular path leading all the way to the end of the pier and back. Two laps of this course will see participants taking on an undulating track alongside breath
taking views. We are proud to say that, even though parkrun is all around the world, Lorne Beach parkrun is unique in that actually includes a pier! parkrun Lorne is run completely by volunteers and community members.

Carly Enticott and Kristin McMaster are the Event Directors bringing the event to our shores. Carly and Kristin stated, “we wanted to bring an event to Lorne that was inclusive, fun, community-focussed and promoted physical activity. parkrun seemed to be the perfect choice”. They also shared that the event was only possible with the kind donations made by Lorne Community Hospital, Great Ocean Road Real Estate, Lorne Hotel, Lorne Op Shop and Lorne Surf Life Saving Club.

“We now boast our own defibrillator for the weekly event thanks to their very generous support”

You can participate with a pram, a dog on a leash and our track is also accessible for wheelchairs. Children under the age of 11 are invited to run, but will need to stay close to a parent or guardian for the event.

The ongoing success of parkrun will rely on the help of volunteers. Kristin and Carly invite anyone who wishes to be involved to get in touch through their website or Facebook page at www.parkrun.com.au/lornebeach

All participants need to register to receive their identifying barcode. Visit the website for more information. See you on the beachfront on the 6th April!
