Community celebration to spark holiday cheer
APOLLO BAY is ready to embrace the holiday spirit with the “Light Up Apollo Bay” event this Friday, December 1, from 6 pm to 9 pm.
Join the community at the foreshore for the official lighting of the Christmas lights on the Norfolk pine tree.
Organised by Jamie and Penny Pickett, The Apollo Bay Foreshore Carnival, and The Apollo Bay Chamber of Commerce, the event features performances by local talents, including the Apollo Bay Community Choir, the Apollo Bay P-12 Big Band, Gaz, Jen, and The Lonely Weekenders, and The Elliminations from The Trinity School Band.
Apollo Bay Chamber of Commerce former Vice-President Bob Knowles said the event was extra special this year.
“Literally a shining light for our community in a time when tough issues abound,” he said.
“Special thanks to Jamie Pickett and his carnival family for the lights and the festive atmosphere.”
“I’d also like to thank the Apollo Bay Chamber of Commerce as well as the Colac Otway Shire for continued support over the years.”
The evening will conclude with fireworks display by Light Your Night Pyrotechnics.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own picnic or grab takeout as they enjoy the festivities.
Rae and friends will be providing free face painting for the kids, and, Santa Claus is rumoured to be making an appearance.
The community event is championed as a simple and festive way for Apollo Bay residents to come together and welcome the holiday season.
“It’s the best grassroots community picnic I’ve ever experienced and the fireworks top off the evening,” Mr Knowles said.
