Community connects at Lorne event
More than 100 people attended the inaugural Community Connect meet, an inspiring initiative set up by the school’s VCE VM students to highlight the importance of community engagement and collective action.
The evening featured plenty of networking and designated time for “community connection speed dating” between volunteers, health organisation representatives, students, educators and community leaders.
Guests also got the chance to hear from Cam Nugent and Hana Assafiri, who inspired audiences with their insights into community engagement and social responsibility.
Nugent spoke about his journey of raising awareness and funds for Love Your Sister in honour of his wife, while Ms Assafiri addressed domestic and family violence and empowering Muslim women to live prosperous lives.
Teacher Cherie Osta said the evening was one of great importance and helped make Lorne a stronger and more unified society.
“The VCE VM curriculum emphasis applied learning and community awareness.
“The students not only met their outcomes through their efforts but have finished the year knowing that they have left a legacy.”
Attendees also enjoyed a nutritious buffet provided by Feed Me Surf Coast which was prepared by Lorne students and famous community chef Like Morgan.
Ms Osta thanked the Bendigo Community Bank, Great Ocean Road Real Estate, and the Anglers Club for their support of the event.
