Community groups get grants

May 8, 2019 BY

MORE than $88,000 will be provided to 23 local volunteer organisations in the Greater Geelong area through federal government grants.

Corangamite Liberal federal member Sarah Henderson said local volunteer organisations that support community, sporting and environmental groups throughout the region would benefit from the grants as part of her government’s Volunteer Grants initiative.

“The grants, of up to $5,000, allow organisations to purchase small equipment items, or contribute to the cost of training courses, volunteer background checks or transport.

Volunteers contribute so much to our community and I am pleased the recipients this year include youth community groups, sporting clubs, land care groups, and local charities.

“Volunteering is more than giving up time – the women and men of these organisations often contribute their heart and soul to support community groups.”
