Community invited to Aireys for pancakes

February 27, 2019 BY

Mary Bremner knocks out a few practice pancakes ahead of the event in Aireys Inlet.

THE Surf Coast community is invited to come to Aireys Inlet on Tuesday, March 5 to join in the festivities for Pancake Day 2019.

Pancakes, with a choice of toppings, and tea and coffee will be available at the Aireys Inlet Community Hall from 11am to 4pm.

Organisers say Pancake Day is a great way for the community to get together, have something good to eat and help others at the same time.

Funds will be raised from the sale of pancakes, to support the work done in the local area by Uniting Vic.Tas, the community services organisation of the Uniting Church Synod of Victoria and Tasmania.

Uniting Vic.Tas is there for people experiencing homelessness, drug and alcohol addiction or mental illness.

The organisation supports people with disability to make their own life choices and assist older people to maintain their independence and enjoy life.

It offers access to training and meaningful employment and support newly arrived people in the community, as well as offer support in early childhood through early learning and family support.

Pancake Day is also known as Shrove Tuesday.

This day is the last day before the start of Lent, a period of fasting, prayer and reflection in the runup to Easter. It references the old tradition of using up all the luxury goodies in the pantry, such as flour, butter and eggs, before the Lenten period of abstinence.

In the 18 years the Pancake Day Appeal has been running, it has raised more than $2 million for communities across Victoria and Tasmania.
