LORNE residents have the chance to leave their mark on the town’s central recreation hub and help round off a multi-million-dollar project.

Stribling Reserve Community Asset Committee is seeking community donations to help it install seats around the entirety of its new pavilion’s viewing area, which would tie a ribbon on the $6.5 million build.

The pavilion presently only has seats covering one of three bays of its viewing area.

A contribution of $500 would buy a place on the new benches through a plaque that recognises each donor or dedicates the spot to a person of their choice.

Management committee chair Peter Spring has kicked off the fundraiser through the Australian Sports Foundation and encouraged locals to play their role in finishing the project.

“The project budget for the new community pavilion only had sufficient funding for seating on one of the three bays on the viewing terraces overlooking the oval,” Mr Spring said.

“The committee would like to have these works completed with seating in the other two terraces because so far this season, this has proved to be a very popular viewing location.”

The campaign had raised more than $165,000 when the Surf Coast Times went to print this week, and is targeting $500,000 to complete the project.
