Community sewing group beaming positivity
ANGLESEA group Sewing with a Purpose has donated hundreds of book and toiletry bags and possum pouches to support local not-for-profit organisations Geelong Mums and Surf Coast Wildlife Rescue.
The group, which meets at the Anglesea Community House, have sewn 320 book and toiletry bags to help mothers in the region find their feet and provided 30y possum pouches to save local wildlife.
Group convenor Deb Elliot said the volunteer group were proud of their dedication and continued efforts to assist those in need.
“In our first year of having this group we have been really humbled to help many in our community, including Geelong Mums, Surf Coast Wildlife Rescue, Feed Me Surf Coast and many other charitable organisations.
“It’s a lovely come and chat kind of setting and we are always welcome to new members who want to come down and be a part of what we are doing.
“We are also very thankful for the grants that we have been given that have helped us buy new sewing machines and overlockers, which certainly make our jobs a bit easier.
“We encourage any groups or people in need to let us know, we are always here to lend a hand and help where we can.”
After finishing the book, toiletry and possum pouch bags, the group will move on to creating soft rabbit bunnies, which will be donated to Sewing for Charity Australia.
The Sewing with a Purpose group has been humbled by generous donations of materials and have been a beneficiary of two grants from the Surf Coast Shire and Barwon South Water and Resource Recovery Group.
Sewing with a Purpose members meets on the first, third, and fifth Monday of the month at the Anglesea Community House from 1pm to 3pm.
