A COMMUNITY crowdfunding campaign has been launched to bring the New Years Eve fireworks back to Lorne to help ring in 2025.

The Committee for Lorne (CFL) announced last week, via its column in the Surf Coast Times, the hopeful return of the fireworks after its success last year.

The Surf Coast Shire chose not to renew the Lorne fireworks in 2022 after a two-year pandemic related absence.

CFL and the Lorne Business and Tourism Association are hopeful of securing at least $20,000 of support from the local community and key stakeholders to put on two fireworks displays.

The first show would be at 9:30pm to maximise viewing for children and families, and the second, a “headline” midnight show to welcome in 2025.

Committee for Lorne member Pete Spring said the committee were confident of securing the “magic funding figure” from stakeholders and the Lorne community.

“It was very well received last year, and the fundraising was very successful. We got donations anywhere from $20 to $500 last year.

“We are pretty confident if it goes as we expect, the fundraiser can give us what we need again.”

Mantra Lorne, Great Ocean Road Real Estate and Lorne Aquatic and Angling Club have already pledged significant financial support to the event.

The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority has also elected to waive permit fees and offer venue management and logistics support.

“We are so excited to bring it back to Lorne. It’s a great community event,” Mr Spring said.

“If we exceed the $20,000 figure, it will just be rolled over to bring it back again in 2026!”
