LOCAL support organisations will present a screening of Human Flow – a film by celebrated director Ai Weiwei – at the Queenscliff Town Hall later this month.

Queenscliff Rural Australians for Refugees, the Uniting Church Queenscliff, Trinity Aid for Refugees and the Borough of Queenscliffe will present the movie on Sunday June 24 at 1.30pm as part of Refugee Week.

Human Flow depicts the magnitude of the global refugee crisis, in which more than 65 million people around the world have been forced to flee their homes to escape famine, climate change and war in the greatest human displacement since World War II.

By focusing closely on the people affected, the film tells a very personal story of the refugee crisis while conveying the epic scale of this global tragedy.

“We are deeply proud to partner with local support organisations to present this powerful and moving film,” Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor Cr Susan Salter said.

“Council encourages everyone in the community to join us at the screening of Human Flow and demonstrate the borough’s support of refugees in our community and all over the world.”

The price of entry is $15 with all funds raised dedicated to supporting local asylum seeker and refugee actions.

Tickets are available from Eventbrite at queensclifferefugeeweek.eventbrite.com.au or via the Borough of Queenscliffe website queenscliffe.vic.gov.au.

Refugee Week 2018 runs from Sunday June 17 to Saturday June 23.

The Borough of Queenscliffe became the 31st Victorian municipality to be formally declared a Refugee Welcome Zone on June 24, 2014.

A Refugee Welcome Zone is a Local Government Area which has made a commitment to welcoming refugees into the community, upholding the human rights of refugees, demonstrating compassion for refugees and enhancing cultural and religious diversity in the community.
