PART of Anglesea’s Coogoorah Park Boardwalk will be closed for several months while Surf Coast Shire Council undertakes a renewal of the structure.

The council announced last month that it expected an upper north-east section to be under construction from this month until October.

An elevated part of the walkway remains closed until the upgrade is completed.

The area’s northern island is accessible via a gravel pathway while the replacement work continues.

The shire indicated that the boardwalk, built in 1985, is due for replacement after deteriorating over the years.

It stated it would implement a “similar design” with the replacement boardwalk segment.

Deputy mayor and Anglesea Ward councillor Mike Bodsworth said last week work was progressing on the project.

“I know the loop that takes in Coogoorah Park in Anglesea is a popular walking, running and riding route for locals and visitors. Thanks for your patience while we continue working on renewing part of the boardwalk.

“We expect works on this upper north-east section to be completed between July and October. The start date for the works will be promoted on our website and social media when confirmed. New signage is also set to be installed.”
