Contract awarded for Coombes Road works
ROAD upgrades are moving closer to commencing on Coombes Road, with council awarding a construction contract to Drapers Civil Contracting.
The Coombes Road works will include widening and resurfacing from Surf Coast Highway to Ghazeepore Road, road sealing and the installation of a roundabout at the intersection of Coombes Road and Messmate Road.
The road works were originally scheduled to take place as two separate packages, however will be constructed at the same time to minimise impact on residents.
Surf Coast Shire Council chief executive officer Robyn Seymour said the project will make Coombes Road safer for road users and cyclists.
“Council officers will work with the contractor on the timing of the road works, working to minimise the impact on residents during construction.
“Once the timing of the road works is known, Drapers Civil Contracting will be in contact with affected residents with the impacts to them during works.
“We will also keep the community up to date with the works through social media, VMS boards and regular updates in the Council columns in local newspapers.”
Additionally, council has received requests from residents for a footpath along Coombes Road.
While funding for a footpath hasn’t been secured as part of these works, the road widening works will be designed to allow for a footpath to be installed in the future from Surf Coast Highway to Brumby Drive, subject to funding becoming available.
