DELAYED construction of new playground equipment at Coogoorah Park due to COVID-19 has now commenced and is expected to take four weeks to complete.

A nautical theme will remain at the locally dubbed Pirate Park, with a replacement large timber ship in the main play space featuring over 30 play elements around, inside, and underneath it.

A new junior play space will also be built.

The Surf Coast Shire Council sought community feedback in December 2020 and January 2021 as the former play space had come to the end of its natural life due to the age of the equipment and safety concerns.

Council used the community consultation to inform the final ship design that will include climbing ropes, rock climbing panels, scramble and funnel nets, as well as pirate themed features like treasure hunts, binoculars, and slides.

Adventure Plus is the contractor for the project.

Council is assuring users it will conduct regular playground audits on the new facility to ensure it’s safe to use.
