Coombes Road upgrades nearing commencement
SURF Coast Shire Council says the community is a step closer to receiving much-needed upgrades to Coombes Road in Torquay appointing a contractor to the works.
The Shire has announced Drapers Civil Contracting will conduct the construction of upgrades to the busy Torquay stretch of road.
The upgrades include widening and resurfacing Coombes Road from Surf Coast Highway to Ghazeepore Road, sealing the road shoulder to make a safe cycling route, and installing a roundabout at the busy intersection of Coombes Road and Messmate Road.
“This project will make Coombes Road safer for all road users, including cyclists, with the increased road width and sealed shoulders,” Surf Coast Shire Council CEO Robyn Seymour said.
“Council officers will work with the contractor on the timing of the road works, working to minimise the impact on residents during construction.
“Once the timing of the road works is known, Drapers Civil Contracting will be in contact with affected residents with the impacts to them during works.”
The construction works are being funded through Council’s road renewal and developer contributions budget.
Originally scheduled as two separate packages of works to be completed across two years, the project has now been packaged as one and will be constructed in one hit to minimise the impact to residents along Coombes Road.
