Couches wanted for Rovers

January 16, 2019 BY

Over 300 hundred Rover Scouts will transcend on Anglesea’s Eumeralla Scout Camp over the Australia Day weekend, and they’re calling on anyone looking to donate an old couch and are offering to collect it.

FOLLOWING in the footsteps of Rover Scouts dating back to 1931, Elliott Luke is arriving at the Eumeralla Scout Camp on January 25 for a Surfmoot and is calling on Surf Coast residents for their old couches.

Journeying through Scouts from a Joey Scout, Cub Scout, Scouts, and Venturer Scouts to a Rover, Elliott joins over 300 fellow members (18 years onwards) for three days of celebrations over the Australia Day weekend.

“I’m part of the organising committee for this year’s Surfmoot. A Surfmoot is a celebration where we have bands, entertainment, planned activities and camping,” he said.

“We’ve organised bus trips and tours to the chocolatier and beach across the three days as well as onsite activities. What we really need is couches for people to sit on under the gazebos we’re going to set up.

“I will be coming down the weekend prior to set up so we’re hoping if anyone is wanting to get rid of any old couches they can contact me, and I’ll come pick them up.”

Elliott said they all camp in tents and bring their own food and drinks but obviously can’t bring their own couches.

“We’ve had a lot of complaints in the past about limited seating and places to relax. I’ve come up with the idea of setting up a beer garden with couches out of the sun and a space where you can relax.

“There will be board games, a projector and a colouring station. After we’ve used the couches we’ll donate them to the Victorian Rover Council.”

If anyone is wanting to donate a couch, or have a couch removed from their property Elliott said he will be collecting from January 18-20.
