Surf Coast Shire council postpones new waste service

May 6, 2020 BY

Under the new system, Surf Coast Shire residents will receive a fourth bin (with a purple lid) for glass.

THE Surf Coast Shire council has postponed the introduction of its planned kerbside collection as the community copes with the coronavirus pandemic.
The introduction of Surf Coast Shire council’s planned new four-bin kerbside collection system, which includes a full food organics and garden organics (FOGO) service and glass-only bin service, has been postponed to February/March 2021.
“In March, our community started to feel the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic and we know households are already making a lot of adjustments to adapt to this situation,” the council’s general manager of governance in infrastructure Anne Howard said.
“We didn’t want to add another layer of change to their new ways of working and living.”
The council’s waste service was expected to start from July 6, and Ms Howard said the council would continue to work with contractors to keep the project moving ahead.
“We remain committed to introducing the four-bin system, but feel it’s not essential to make the change at this challenging time.
“We will circulate more information about the new waste system in coming months, when hopefully things have settled down for our community.”
