Council using app for noisy neighbours

August 15, 2019 BY

SURF Coast Shire residents are now able to make formal complaints to the council about their neighbours being too noisy by using The Noise App.

Residents have traditionally had to fill out the Noise Nuisance Complaint Form, but approximately three months ago council began accepting complaints through the free app.

The Noise App captures samples of noise while also logging the time and duration of the noise.

The City of Casey Council was one of the first areas in Australia to trial the app for noise complaints.

They started the trial at the beginning of the year and have since had over 100 noise cases submitted to council via the app.

City of Casey Mayor Amanda Stapledon welcomed the app, but said it was ideal first “to have a conversation with their neighbour about any concerning noise issues”.

The Surf Coast Shire has experienced less than 100 noise complaints in the past two years, and has so far only received three complaints through The Noise App.
