EIGHTY Aged Care residence from Torquay have received their COVID-19 vaccination with residents reporting to be in good health following the jab.

The Star of the Sea Aged Care Residence located on Horseshoe Bend Road was the first of twelve Villa Maria Catholic Homes to receive the Pfizer vaccine on Tuesday.

Braving the first jab of the day Resident Jennie Magennis seemed to be in good spirits following a difficult year in aged-care homes.

VMCH CEO Sonya Smart was pleased to see the vaccination roll out without any complications.

“With more of our residences scheduled to receive their vaccines next week, we need to ensure we have the vaccination process organised and our team at Star of the Sea did a wonderful job of that,” she said.

“Thanks to communication from some of the other Catholic aged care organisations around Australia, we were able to prepare for the day, knowing how it has run in other homes and some of the issues they had faced.”

Ms Smart said VCMH put on additional staff to assist on the day with organising residence as well as appointing an immunisation team leader to ensure each resident was monitored post-vaccination.

“It was all hands on deck, but our team did a wonderful job,” Ms Smart said.

“Our Lifestyle and Pastoral Care staff were very helpful in supporting residents whilst they were waiting to get their vaccination as we all know how boring it can be while waiting at the doctors.

“It has been a great team effort so far, and I look forward to the continuing successful rollouts across all aged care residences.”

The catholic not-for-profit organisation provide a diverse range of services from early learning and therapy, specialist education, disability services, affordable homes, residential aged care, retirement living and at-home aged care.
