Craig Drummond to take over as Cats president

December 31, 2020 BY

Incoming president Craig Drummond has been on the board of the Geelong Cats since 2011.

CRAIG Drummond will be the new president of the Geelong Cats, with Colin Carter announcing last week that he would step down from the role.

Drummond – who will take up the presidency after the club’s annual general meeting in January – joined the Geelong board in early 2011. He is chair of the club’s finance and audit committee and a member of the club’s foundation board.

He is a highly successful executive and has been the chief executive officer of Medibank since 2016.

Before joining Medibank, Drummond was group executive finance and strategy of National Australia Bank, having joined NAB in November 2013. At NAB, his focus was the strategic realignment and repositioning of the bank, its balance sheet and its performance management systems.

Before this, Drummond was chief executive officer and country head of Bank of America Merrill Lynch (Australia).

Earlier in his career, Drummond joined JBWere, a leading Australian stockbroker and wealth manager, in equity research and subsequently held roles including chief operating officer, chief executive officer and executive chairman of Goldman Sachs JBWere.

Carter’s last day as president will be during the Cats’ AGM on January 28. He has served as Geelong president since December 2010.

“It’s easy to be proud of an organisation that has so many great people and that has been so successful,” Carter said. “This is a successful organisation and I’m pleased that we have built on this.

“In particular, I thank the members for their support. This year, our members and philanthropic donors stood behind the club in a period where the impact of COVID could have set us back a decade. What they have done for the club was wonderful.

“Stick with us, we are still striving to enjoy the ultimate success again!”
